This is a few days late, I'm sorry! I've gotten a few messages from some of you wondering why I hadn't posted about the first episode of Project Runway that aired Thursday, sorry! but hopefully you've all had an opportunity to let it sink it. and HOW AMAZING WAS HE?! I thought he was fantastic...his use of form and innovation....there was something about his design that was progressive beyond what any of the designers were doing. But not only was his design amazing, Malvin was everything I hoped he would be and more. His unique sense of self was unmistakable. While some of the designers cringed in fear, cried even (we all know who we're talking about), Malvin had such a confidence about him that was refreshing and impulsive--it had a realness to it that you don't come across often but rarely ever see in the public eye. I think my favorite line of the show was when they first introduced the challenge and he says, "carpets? red carpet? blue carpet? I don't know anything about carpets." He's so committed to his craft, Malvin doesn't seem to pay attention to the superficiality that true fashion gets consumed by. And before I forget, I was truly impressed by how well spoken he was! Malvin's description of his art and of his thought process had an intellectualism that was clearly beyond what any of the other contestants exemplified. Before I thought that Malvin was amazing but after seeing him on this first episode I don't think there is any doubt he is.
