SO?! First Episode! Amazing or mind-blowingly fantastic?!

This is a few days late, I'm sorry! I've gotten a few messages from some of you wondering why I hadn't posted about the first episode of Project Runway that aired Thursday, sorry! but hopefully you've all had an opportunity to let it sink it. and HOW AMAZING WAS HE?! I thought he was fantastic...his use of form and innovation....there was something about his design that was progressive beyond what any of the designers were doing. But not only was his design amazing, Malvin was everything I hoped he would be and more. His unique sense of self was unmistakable. While some of the designers cringed in fear, cried even (we all know who we're talking about), Malvin had such a confidence about him that was refreshing and impulsive--it had a realness to it that you don't come across often but rarely ever see in the public eye. I think my favorite line of the show was when they first introduced the challenge and he says, "carpets? red carpet? blue carpet? I don't know anything about carpets." He's so committed to his craft, Malvin doesn't seem to pay attention to the superficiality that true fashion gets consumed by. And before I forget, I was truly impressed by how well spoken he was! Malvin's description of his art and of his thought process had an intellectualism that was clearly beyond what any of the other contestants exemplified. Before I thought that Malvin was amazing but after seeing him on this first episode I don't think there is any doubt he is.

It seems we're not the only ones obsessed....

Since I didn't post much this week, I feel no shame in posting another killer interview I found about Malvin. This one deals with Malvin's medical interest, his HIV research and what he's trying to do to help spread the message about getting tested. If there has ever been a true Renessaince man, I think we have found him (hint: his name starts with an M and ends in an "alvin").

It's no wonder there's been so much buzz around Malvin recently, I mean the man does everything! Check out this Malvin related group, doing his alma mater proud it seems: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=132855030744

It is officially THURSDAY people! I know i've been a little slow on the posts this week but I've been a little busy with school stuff. I know, I know, there should be no excuses especially in this pivotal time! I honestly can't wait to see Malvin tomorrow, to see what he starts out with, to hear what inspires him, and just see him, his entire persona, besides just his art, is so intriguing. Sketches Galor!

So, it is getting closer and closer to the start of Project Runway and I am so excited! The more I read about Malvin, the more I am dazzled by his sense of fashion and individuality....(longing sigh). Here are some sketches I pulled off of the Lifetime website. It's awe-inspiring how detailed his designs are, he is so innovative and forward thinking... it seems to me that he designs not the clothes that we daily wrap ourselves in for the sake of public decency, what we succumb to for lack of thought or because we find ourselves weary from the constant bombardment of styles, things, clothes we are told are cool, hip, hott; but he designs what we would all want to wear had we only the window into life, freedom, and personal expression that he does. I think there are rarely designers that understand that there is more of an interplay between clothes, design, emotion, human connection, hope, desire, and intimate expression than what is superficially obvious. Malvin seems to understand that and I hope that's something people will begin to see through him.... 6 more days!

Saving the world and looking fabulous!

So I found this amazing article on Malvin.

http://www.examiner.com/x-7166-Baltimore-Sewing-Examiner~y2009m8d2-Interview-with-Project-Runway-Season-6s-designer-Malvin-Vien

It's such a wonderful insight into what made him the passionate and insightful artist that he is. It is unbelievable to me that a person with so much talent, such a natural gift for fashion, has not lost themselves in that sort of industry that tends to kill the soul but instead seems even more devoted to making a concrete change in the world. God, that Malvin is melting my heart! What a hunksicle!

Color me Jealous!

So a friend of mine was lucky enough to meet Malvin during some promotion that he was doing for Project Runway. I'm so jealous! O to be a feather upon that brow!
My friend said that Malvin is every bit the fashion genius and style icon that she thought he would be and she said that he was super SUPER nice and sweet, even taking the time to give her some fashion tips (strips are in!). Also, she said that he was even more attractive in person. Her mom even thought that he was one of the models! He really is that hot.
Ugh, I can't wait to have my own Malvin Vien story! Does anyone else have any Malvin stories? Run into him in a club? Seen him in the subway? If so, share! I'd love to hear some Malvin stories!

Pure Sexy

I came across this picture of Malvin and had to share the hottness. Enjoy!
P.S. official count down: 10 more days!
